Judith Mulvey Herrin, MS, RD: Registered Dietician
A vital
element of FitMed Partner’s philosophy is not to put people on a perpetual diet, but to teach them how to change their lifestyles and reap the benefits of better health—for life! Judith Mulvey Herrin, MS, RD is FitMed’s registered dietician and nutrition planner and is a big part of educating our patients about nutrition, food psychology, and good choices.
As the Nutritionist for the MUSC Harper Student Wellness Center, she implemented the “Healthy Charleston Challenge,” an intense ten-week team weight loss program. She teaches participants the fundamentals of nutrition and exercise with the guidance of a dietitian, psychologist, physician, and a personal trainer; in 2010, the Medical Fitness Association ranked the Healthy Charleston Challenge third for most innovative program in the country. Preventing childhood obesity is a huge goal for her, which led Judith to implement the “MUSC Boot Camp for Kids” program, which is a program of exercise, anatomy, exercise physiology, nutrition, grocery store tours, behavior modification, games, and activities to help overweight children learn healthy lifestyle habits.
Judith currently teaches Nutrition, History of Culture and Diets, and Sanitation & Safety classes to the culinary and hospitality students at The Citadel and Trident Technical College. She received her MS in Health, Exercise and Sports Science at the Citadel, her RD from Winthrop University, and her BS in Food Science and Human Nutrition from Clemson University. She is a member of the American Dietetic Association and an active member of the Charleston Trident Dietetic Association.
